Java At Its Best
December 1st, 2007
Introducing the latest member of my culinary gadgets family … my first French press. A new discovery of sorts (yeah, I know I’m late), I first saw this marvelous little coffee maker while watching an episode of Chef! (one of my favourite Britcoms) a few weeks ago. It was so cute, I just had to have one. So, I researched several models and decided on the Bodum Chambord. I’m not a regular coffee drinker, but when I’m in the mood to indulge, I want it to be good.

In addition to its pleasing appearance, this pretty baby rocks one heck of a nice cup of java, particularly when using freshly ground beans. Throw in the fact that it’s pretty quick to use and very easy to clean and I’m hooked. What makes a French press different from a drip brew type is that there is no paper filter, just the coffee grounds and the brewing water. This allows the French press to capture more of the coffee’s essential oils that would otherwise become absorbed in a regular coffee maker’s paper filter. The result is a more intensely flavored brew that is absolutely perfect for my taste.
